actually, i bought sina and sohu back in early november of 2001... sold and bought back in again, and then sold off around $2 and change. i have spent every month since then looking at all three portals and thinking "damn i missed it"... then they all go up another dollar. rinse repeat.

i really believed that they were the biggest undervalued play back in fall of 2001, but they have all certainly blown my valuations out of the water. no ideas anymore. simply put, the market in china is huge, they will be wired, and the olympics are coming. throw online gambling into the mix (in china... yikes), and at least one of these companies stands to do very well.

i left ntes out as they were in deep financial problems at the time. they in turn were also the biggest % winner if the three.

i still like sina the best, but currently do not own any of them. i continue to be wrong about a pullback... month after month

The China portals are trading exactly like their American dot.com cousins a few years ago - price-sales from 12-28, history of losses, huge growth "potential" but insane valuations at the current prices.

I missed this runup myself - almost nibbled on SINA at 5 but I hesitated too long. But I wouldn't buy at these nosebleed levels unless you plan to flip to another eager sucker soon afterward.

You will sleep better holding UTSI. I still like ATS as another quiet, unknown angle on Chinese growth.
