Political corruption in Illinois has generally been a bipartisan affair. Historically, there has been a nice cozy relationship between the downstate Republicans and the Chicago Democrats. Mayor Daley would probably prefer to have a Republican governor.

BTW, the last two Democratic governors, Otto Kerner and Dan Walker, both went to jail after they left office.
