The technique of Vipassana Meditation was carried to Burma in 500 BC by 2 ambassadors of buddha. It got lost to the rest of the world, except in Burma where a string of 13 teachers handed it down from generation to generation in its original form.

U Ba Khin was the one who taught Goenka, the heir to a business tycoon of Burma. He studied Vipassana to rid himself of severe migraines he had and then taught his mother to heal her of a string of mental ailments. The family later migrated to Bombay and he brought it to India with him some 30 years ago, and then spread it around the world.

Its still practiced in its ancient form, and during the 10 days, you feel you're transported to the 500 BC era. Lot of disciplined hard work. Check out the code of conduct <g>
