Israeli election note: Mitzna is about to announce that he won't join any government that Sharon heads. Now, polls show that most Israelis desire a unity government, not a right-wing government, so he's calculating that even if he can't win, he can force Sharon to form a right-wing government that won't last long.

I think it's likely to have just the opposite effect, and make lots of potential Labor voters go vote for Meretz or Shinui instead. Shinui certainly will have no objections to joining a unity government, as long as you leave Shas out of it (even some of the other religious parties would be okay; Shinui doesn't object to religion per se, but to government welfare for religion, for which Shas is famous).

This election is going to be interesting.
