what do you think of Lapid?

I only know what I read, I've never even seen the show, let alone talked to him like you (name-dropper! -g-). Semi-hysterical left-wing writers aside, what I read tallies up with what you're saying. I think political show hosts must all be professional blowhards to some degree; just compare how much more thoughtful Chris Matthews is as a guest on someone else's show than as host of his own.

It would be a total hoot to see him in power, no?

Lapid would be the most surprised of all if he turns out to be Israel's Jesse Ventura, I think. I notice lots of Israelis are recollecting the elections of 1996, when pre-election polls told the whole country that Peres would win, and everybody woke up the next morning to find out that Netanyahu had won instead. The newspaper reporters woke up teenagers sleeping on benches at Likud headquarters in their desperation to interview somebody; everybody else had gone home.
