Oh, yes. I think it was probably 3 years ago. I was working to build an elder law practice in Pennsylvania. I had no kids, and my mother was living in Florida. Internet stocks were exploding to the upside and Billie Harmon was pontificating on the virtues of the next momo play.

At the end of 2000, we had our first baby. Linda was 40 and I was 48. Then my 84 year old mom took a turn for the worse and Linda agreed that it was time for her to come live with us. In gratitude I gave Linda her greatest wish, which was to return to the little California university town where she grew up and in which her mother, sibs, nephews and nieces reside. So we went from one generation to three generations under the roof almost overnight. And we moved across the country to a place where I had not really wanted to return. But our little experiment in joint family living has turned out quite well and we had another child, a boy, almost 4 months ago.

Were you one of those young girls in brightly colored pajama playing on the Kashmiri hills alongside the flock?
