I'm not so sure about that. There are international standards of conduct related to consular access for foreign citizens in most countries. The Aussies likely cannot get him released, but they should have access to him to see that he is being treated properly.

But it all depends upon if he was in Pakistan illegally.. Then other standards could apply.
