However, the company will encash the cheques only after February 6, sources said. For those who register in the first seven days, the company will offer service before March 31, ’03, sources said. “The period until February 6 will be used to mop up applications’’, said sources. Following the launch tomorrow, Reliance will be demonstrating its service, which include voice and data, to the public. The company had launched its operations on December 27, ’02. Speaking at the time of the launch, Mukesh Ambani, chairman, Reliance Infocomm, had announced that a muhurat would be held on January 15, in the auspicious period after Makar Sankranti (January 14). On January 15, the company will officially launch its services and bookings for the membership of the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Club will start from tomorrow. The bookings will continue till March, after which it will be closed. Standard tariffs will apply for bookings after March. According to a release issued by the company, Reliance has enrolled over 50,000 direct marketing agents under the Dhirubhai Ambani Entrepreneur Scheme so far. However, it is this scheme of employing direct marketing agents that has upset the Reliance Infocomm dealers since they fear that the agents will eat into their business. Some of the Mumbai-based dealers had protested outside Reliance offices in Shriram Mills area of Mumbai, said sources. “Earlier we were promised that there would be about 20-25 outlets per station (in Mumbai). Now there are more than 43 outlets. Besides, the company plans to appoint more than one lakh distributors as field agents,’’ said a dealer. Another grouse of the dealers is that Reliance has changed the terms of the dealership whereby their commissions are affected. Sources close to the company claimed that these issues have been resolved to the satisfaction of the dealers. ``We have converted the dealers appointed about two to three months ago into Dhirubhai Ambani Entrepreneurs and have offered them better terms,’’ said sources.economictimes.indiatimes.com
