There are few death penalty opponents who'd say that they'd oppose the death penalty if a member of their family was murdered. And those who say they would are - at least as I see it - probably lying.

Emotions are inextricable from this sort of topic, as they are with abortion, et al. But I don't think that someone saying that they're opposed to the death penalty but would begrudgingly support it in the case of one of their own family members is necessarily more, or less, disingenuous than any death penalty proponents suggesting that they'd accept "taking one for the team" if they were innocent but erroneously convicted and sentenced to death.

The best we can do is be as consistent as possible. Ya know?
