But has he offered any evidence that there is no deterrence beyond the meaningless list of nationwide murder and execution rates? Combining non DP states with DP states makes the aggregate data meaningless when looking for evidence of deterrence. There is also a vast spread in the willingness of juries in various jurisdictions within DP states to actually impose the DP. If a potential murderer knows his county never imposes the DP he is unlikely to be deterred by it.

Concerning deterrence and sacrificing innocents this is from the article in your post 205...

The small possibility that an "innocent" will be executed must be weighed against this cost in really innocent lives.
The choice isn't as simple as the opponents wish to believe.
