No one noticed anything amiss until the jet was picked up by air traffic control at Dulles Airport, about a half hour outside the city in Virginia. Then it seemed to be heading towards the area with the White House, then suddenly made a sharp, spiralling turn and plowed into the Pentagon. I do not know how long it would have taken, or whether they could scramble jets from Andrews Airforce Base in time, or anything about internal defenses. My guess is that the Pentagon was only prepared for ground attack, and that there was too much confusion for our jets to knock down the plane in time.........
