OT : In the western world one wears a hat when its too hot or too cold. In the arab world thats the equivalent. In the desert, days are hot, and nights are cold. It also protects them from sandstorms.

You're asking the wrong person, ET - I'm no expert in Saudi styles of dress. I know that the headress style is regional - Saudi-style is different from Kuwaiti-style, for example - but that's about it.
