Leading Grocer Standardizes on Dell Systems in Every Store

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2003--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - News) today announced that Winn-Dixie, one of the largest food retailers in the United States, has completed a rollout of Dell servers and network-attached storage (NAS) in its retail locations.
Winn-Dixie has installed one Dell server and one NAS system in each store -- more than 2,100 systems in 1,060 stores. Winn-Dixie upgraded to Dell NAS systems to conduct daily backups of various applications, including in-store tag printing, inventory management programs and pharmacy data, while Dell servers support critical back office systems. The Dell server and storage systems simplify each store's technical infrastructure by reducing traffic on the network.

Winn-Dixie worked with Dell Services to install the 1,060 PowerEdge(tm) servers and 1,060 PowerVault NAS systems running Microsoft® Windows(tm) 2000. The company also implemented Dell's systems management software tool, OpenManage(tm), to manage its server and storage systems.

"We're continuing to work with our customers to make it easier for them to implement technology that simplifies and improves their business," said Joe Marengi, senior vice president, Dell Americas. "These Dell systems provide Winn-Dixie's pharmacy customers the security of knowing their prescriptions, medical information and other critical data are backed up and retrievable."
