MOBILE, Ala. -- Jerry Jones admits he is prone to hyperbole. So only time will tell how serious he was Tuesday when commenting about the possibility of Troy Aikman once again donning a Cowboys uniform at quarterback under new coach Bill Parcells.

Let’s just say Jones didn’t rule it out.

Jones was responding to questions about Aikman’s comments reported in The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday that if Parcells were interested in having Aikman come back “it would be worth considering.”

Jones, attending Senior Bowl preparations this week in Mobile, Ala., said, “I haven’t talked to Troy. He and I get to talk from time to time. And if that’s something we can talk about, we will.”

When asked if Jones had broached the subject with Parcells, Jones said, “I haven’t. But, candidly, when we see some of these veteran quarterbacks like they are having success with in Oakland (Rich Gannon), then we know Troy, with his skill level, could have a lot of success in the NFL.”

When pressed again on how seriously he would consider an Aikman comeback, Jones said, “I just have to really review that and look at it from the standpoint of what I feel about him personally, not only as a player, but personally. He’s someone who has been as integral a part of the Cowboys’ success over the last 12 or 13 years as anyone living. So it deserves that kind of a thought from me.”

Aikman was cut by the Cowboys after the 2000 season and then retired from the NFL. But his possible return to football with the Miami Dolphins and former offensive coordinator Norv Turner became a hot topic this season when Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler went down with an injury.

Aikman, who serves on the No. 1 NFL broadcast team for Fox, has said the longer he stays away from football the harder it would be for him to return.

"I don't think it would ever be much of a consideration," Aikman was quoted in The News on Tuesday. "However, if Bill Parcells were to come to my home and tell me how much he wanted me to play and how much I could help him and the team win ... I think it would be worth considering. Don't know then that I would do it, but how could you not at least hear him out?"
