"The United States is far from the worst human rights abuser," said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch

Brinkley's whole article is based on one report from one group which is expressing an opinion lacking balance of political dynamic. I seriously doubt that the Palestinians who teach their kids the glory of blowing up pizza parlours, for example, have any particular concern about Malaysian jails or Uzbekistan religious dissenters. As Hamas encourages another ripcord to incinerate movie patrons, does Cuba, of all places, really enter their minds?

The HRW report doesn't hold water, and therefore neither does the Brinkley article about said report. HRW has a skewed sense of where terrorism is bred.

"It concludes that 'if the U.S. campaign against terrorism reinforces that repression, it risks breeding more terrorists as it alienates would-be allies in the fight against terrorism.'"

One of the awful things Muslims accuse the US of doing to Muslims is not taking their side in Chechnya and Kashmir.

"The United States is far from the worst human rights abuser," said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, a private advocacy group. "But Washington has so much power today that when it flouts human rights standards it damages human rights causes worldwide."

Well then... I suggest Mr. Roth relocate his headquarters to Libya since Mr. Qadaffi's country will be the next head of the UN Human Rights Commission..

Obviously heading this prestigious organization is an honor that Mr. Qadaffi has truly urned (sic)..

And Mr. Roth, I'm sure, is proud to see Mr. Qaddaffi leading his country to oversee human rights around the world, despite calling it a "repressive regime" in this press release.

hrw.org

HRW enunciates some level of fear that these repressive regimes are "hi-jacking" the UN human rights programs.. And by god... with invective's such as Roth is using against the US, HRW's making sure that their worst fears come true.

But call me a contrarian to prevailing group-think.. I personally believe that, by claiming that every other nation in the world has better human rights than the US, Mr. Roth has completely destroyed whatever credibility he might have garnered as an alternative to Amnesty International..

He owes the American people an apology..
