Anybody got a poll among those serving life--in really, really harsh prison environments--as to whether they'd prefer death or life? Problem is there really aren't quality prisons, ones that really harsh ones. If there actually were hard prisons, instead of ones filled with drug offenders, I'd think you'd find lots of 'em would prefer death. Each man dies lonely, but none like to live lonely.

And, again, the appeals process is and always must be extensive. It's difficult to continually bring both the victims' families and the families of the accused to court over and over again.

I say put an early settlement to the matter, seek applicable restitutions where possible and let those convicted live a long hard life of labor behind bars, no frills.
