From my cursory and inexpert reading of the report Iceberg posted, it seems that that patient was killed by adenovirus itself, which he got in a massive quantity. In the French cases they've contracted cancer, which I assume was not the expected result of infection by the retrovirus. This seems another issue entirely.

If the issue is where the payload ends up, then the moratorium should extend to all genetic therapy shouldn't it? I would think there is less control of where the DNA is inserted in naked DNA therapy than when using a virus - retro or otherwise.
