The B2B "myth" really wasn't a myth. It was just misapplied concepts. B2B hoped to replace POP pricing and negotiation with more of an automated auction arrangement. Highly desirable, if you can do it. From my standpoint, sales, it reduces the impact of buyer optimization programs that are currently driving prices into the floor. From a buyer standpoint, the negotiation process becomes transparent.
Unfortunately, alot of people don't like the concept of a full blown B2B arrangement. They feel it will reduce their power. As a result, scaled back EDI (direct connectivity rather than faxing/delivery of papers) still rates VERY high on the cost savings horizon of my business. If we can ever get around to it, that is.
The pure B2B arrangement was on the verge of happening 2 years ago. I saw it teetering on the precipice. The bursting bubble put the firms that were working on it out of business. When capital dries up, the stuff that's on the edge is the first to go.
