Hi Greg. It's been a while.

The truths in Hawking's book existed in an undiscovered state prior to Hawking's writing. He didn't invent the ideas or the words - he discovered them. Most things are simply discovered and not really "invented" because they were always there; no one had blundered over them until humanity came by which is how WE found out. But, if the concept was was true it would have been discovered by suitably curious individuals or entities with the curiosity, desire, time and preparation to discover them.

If I have a complete blueprint for a car, it exists as an abstraction but it exists. But there are predicate states that precede it's construction - so, I give it to you, you won't be able to build it - not because you don't have the instruction - but because you haven't acquired the state (possessing all the equipment and predicate knowledge) to build it.

Such is the thing with life.

I am beginning to believe you have a different use for the verb "to cause" than the rest of us.

Could you explain what you mean by "cause"? Maybe that would clarify the issue a little.

By the way, your less than subtle insults at my level of knowledge in mathematics or physics, is not only irrelevant but also quite hilarious. It is no secret to anyone following this exchange that between the two of us I am not the who knows less about the current level of science.
