Many companies already report pro-forma AND gaap, or select other forms of reporting as well in order to give investors a clearer picture of what's going on. Among the companies that report both gaap and pro-forma or "look through," to use the words of Warren Buffett, are QUALCOMM and Berkshire Hathaway.

Perhaps one result of the SEC's 5-0 vote will be to expose some company reporting and turn investors toward the companies that have been doing an honest job all along. This might create a new set of market dogs and also a new set of high flyers.
