I can't see how liberals would be very good at chess while lacking the apparent ability to see a few moves ahead. Much of the left has the unpromising hope of somehow saving Saddam's hide. What they fail to see is that they push his eventual demise ever closer to the 2004 election where Bush will be a reigning war hero. It would behoove their own interests if Bush were to take out Saddam as quickly as possible and they could allow the normal and current economic down cycle to help erode his popularity, but they can't see it. * * *
