I may have to look at it.

In my case, I just got from the library Destructive Emotions: How Can we Overcome Them? . It's by Daniel Goleman, the author of Emotional Intelligence, and it's the report of a conference of scientists, philosophers, and Buddhist scholars, supported by the Dalai Lama. Apparently they have done these conferences every few years, seeing whether there is anything Western neuroscientists in particular and Buddhist practicioners can learn from each other.

it was well reviewed in Booklist and I want to go look into it.

I remember you telling me about the first one you read. Those horrific 3rd World conditions in East St. Louis are really burned into my brain. This is the legacy of unregulated heavy industry.

The people in Colorado have to deal with the pollution of mining, but it is nothing compared to the abject poverty AND toxics left in the wake of various periods of industrial development along those forgotten stretches along the Mississippi mudflats.
