Your 'self' observing the I or ego as some say. I think Jung called it the personal self and ego or some such thing.

One nice thing about Jaynes theory would be that our brains would be advancing at a rapid [relatively] rate... that would be nice!

One observation I have made that could support such a thing is that really anxious people tend not to marry and have kids as much as relaxed folk. Seems to have little to do with cranial anything and everything to do with something else. One could imagine all sorts of non-structural selectivity.
