Yes, but Sanes has got a bad description. How can you get to a reasonable conclusion and sensible action on that basis? It's not the European welfarism which is the fly in the ointment of cooperation with respect to something like (eg) Iraq. It's their belief that their local circumstance is like that of the wider world beyond Europe. Sanes has something else right though, and that is the islamists and others who are actively against democracy and reason will coalesce in some way damaging particularly to the US, but also to much of the rest of the world.
