I know. But those aren't the only republicans. The country is full of republicans, and some of them are good and decent. As liberals it's hard for us to sort the wheat from the chaff because as "some" people on this board show us, it's easy to indiscriminately hate a whole bunch of people for just being the "other" political party. I don't care what issue you talk about, either party, when given the opportunity to take it to an extreme, can screw it up. It's like that poem "Some people say the world will end in ice and some say fire..."

Both extremes are a danger. Both extremes are full of hate for the "other" side". Sure I agree more with the liberal extreme on principle, but I find them just as scary as the extreme right in practice.
