Many young adults have benefited and matured due to the regimentation the military teaches and enforces. Parents call this structure. Acceptance for the draft system broke down during the Vietnam War primarily because of its duration and our failure to win the conflict. Secondary reasons however should not be the focus for implementing anything. I do not advocate conscription for our times and the military has become progressively more technical and less infantry oriented. As a footnote, while I was writing this, a friend called to tell me the police has caught a 15-year-old kid breaking into a house in the neighborhood. He is obviously lacking structure and should have been in school. * * *
