It strikes me that you and particularly Scott are doing quite alot of this yourselves.

Mike,

A couple of points. On Nadine and 9/11, the article Scott posted referred to military costs and it's my impression that the biggest military costs at the moment have to do with an invasion of Iraq. Am I wrong? I continue to believe that the arguments that say we need to invade Iraq because of 9/11 are wrong, at best. There may be reasons we can all debate about whether or not, but the 9/11 ones simply have no evidence yet. If ever.

On the reasonableness stuff, you miss my point. I argue with a great many folk here. The act of arguing is to treat the person taking the other side as a partner in a conversation/debate. That article about le Carre's article simply dismissed le Carre from the conversation. Thus the criterion of "reasonableness" is a way to let some into the argument and banish others. Not my tactic. Unless, of course, I'm attacked personally. But that's another matter.
