Oh, I do just fine without others telling me what is defensible. On a more serious note, the failure of the Bush administration to offer serious, plausible public defenses of its Iraqi strategy is what is at stake here. In my small travels, I run across a great many very reasonable, calm folk who use terms very close to "madness" if not worse to describe the proposed Iraqi invasion. It's more than a disagreement, and to paint it as a "left" kind of thing is to misunderstand it. These are folk who will listen to good argument which I gather the term "left" for you covers folk who won't. They just haven't heard some.

It is pointless to weigh in on the merits of LeCarre's ridiculous screed with JohnM. Given its cartoonish language and LeCarre's mastery of the English, it may have actually been written half in jest. No thinking person can take it seriously. In any event, self-described humor-impaired JohnM has already expressed his opinion. It isn't changing. A wonderful piece. Fascinating read.
