"slavery" is a bit different than national service... -g- Contributing to one's community, and one's country, is often claimed as the exclusive domain of military service, which is nonsense. All ends of the spectrum need to be more politically involved, and nat'l service would do that. Which is why the Pentagon and Washington in general are against it. The goal of gov't is to keep the electorate as far from gov't participation as possible, while extracting the maximum taxes and fees, and hypnotizing everyone into liking it that way...
