Affirmative action is not the right solution. It's falls under the category of what I call "fake solutions to real problems." Among other things, it gives minorities a false impression that they should depend on handouts because of their circumstances.

I agree that A.A. is not the best solution but you tell me how do we make up for nearly 200 hundred years of oppression in which a whole segment of the population has become of underclass?

The W. Germans had a similar problem when they joined with the East. Even though there were some real doubts and concerns, they raised the wages of the East Germans to that of the W. Germans. It wasn't really fair to anyone but it was the fastest way to ameliorate the disparities caused by 50 years of division.

And of course, you can bet how enthusiastic I am about a policy that gives us Asians the shaft.

And you're right about the Asians.....I've posted before that there was a study in the early 90s in CA where it showed that the Asians in LA County had a higher average grade completed in school as compared to the whites but had a lower average income.

In other words, LA County Asians were better educated than their white counter parts but were paid less. This is in one of the more liberal areas of the country. Nonetheless, some progress has been made under several civil rights laws including AA and that's what sits in the craw of the very conservative wing of the GOP.
