What is the mystery about the GSM carrier doing GSM1X. I thought it was announced to be China Unicom. Did they take it back?

Randall/ Tom- Regarding: "So, why has it been almost three months and we STILL haven't heard from the mysterious GSM carrier who is going to trial GSM 1x? What are the possible reasons for delay? "

Andy Seybold in this week's Big Talk said he knew, but couldn't tell. He provided a hint a month or two back, but I can't remember the details. Tom could be right with Unicom.

However, I believe GSM1X is not especially a pressing need with the MSM6300 chipset (GSM/GPRS- CDMA2000 1X "world phone")in handsets to be available in commercial volumes by mid-2003. By mid-year, Qualcomm's markets expand FOUR FOLD as it emerges from a CDMA only company to a WORLD WIDE provider of chipsets to virtually every carrier (GSM & CDMA)in the world. I believe there should be a sizable replacement/ upgrade market for the MSM6300 equipped handsets in Unicom and VOD/VZN (both with GSM & CDMA networks), and other carriers who wish to offer world-wide roaming to virtually every network in the world.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME.
