what kinda spending INCREASE did VonRumsfeld ask for and receive...? I have believed for several years that we have been spending TOO MUCH on defense...Clinton could (and should) have scaled back more...Yet, Bush & Co. have taken spending up to record levels -- its very reckless and irresponsible...There is SO MUCH waste in the defense department its not even funny...many weapons systems can and should be cut...forget about the pie in the sky Star Wars program...bring home most of the troops from Korea, The Middle East, Europe, etc.....We often antagonize folks by acting like the global policemen....Your tax dollars at work -- its embarrassing at times...we deserve better leadership...Americans are sacrificing and why shouldn't our bloated defense department?..The only areas where it might be prudent to have some increase in spending is to pay active soldiers more and to upgrade the IT systems for the Intelligence Agencies - All other areas should be cut way back...The defecit is going through the roof and The President is ignoring it...We have OVERspent on defense for years...We need more intelligent spending BUT real discipline to make the necessary cuts...JMHO.
