He coined that phrase during his tenure as the Oilers Defensive Coordinator. Remember when he went after Gilbride on the sidelines during the game. I believe that was a nationally televised game (ESPN if my memory serves me correctly)

One of Buddy's biggest downfall was his belief that the offense contirbuted no value to winning. He honestly believed his defense could win every game on its own.

He treated Randall Cunningham like he was playing in a sandlot game and asked him to make 3 plays per game and the D would do the rest.

Buddy is a perfect example of the "Peter Principle" in action. Defensive coordinator was his pinnacle. His only other strong trait was he had a pretty good eye for talent. His drafts were defintely above average during his tenure in Philly.
