I know a young couple who earn a modest income, and she is absolutely adamant that they buy their first home in Bellevue (an upscale, expensive community). She wants to say "Bellevue" when she is asked where she lives.

OTH.....my husband and I bought some acreage in the "country" 26 years ago where no one wanted to live because it was "so far out."

LOLOLOL

Can't buy a steep hillside lot for less that $100K now.

It's called vision.

I don't know the Sacramento area, but I did manage to find a few in southern California. Mostly in the desert, a few near the Salton Sea. Garden spots for sidewinders, lol. I bet Zzyzzyx Springs is probably pretty cheap, too.
