I don't doubt you can make money shorting indices here, and some old tech like PCs which we all know are mature. But the dynamics of shorting are different than being long, its much more risky and doesn't work as well for me. Of course if you're super short term it doesn't matter. There were a ton of shorts in ciena in december, they lost all their money, if I hold ciena I might lose half. (not advocating buying ciena I still have 3K shares from the past and I follow the stock though).
