First, not all advertisers have the same interests, and most of them do not dabble in public policy. Second, what people like Chomsky are considering "corporate culture" is, in fact, just mainstream culture. It merely reflects long- standing American values that predate the rise of mass culture, such as self- reliance, thrift, and neighborliness. If one reads DeToqueville, touring the country in the 1830's, one encounters the substance of American culture, including its regard for money making, substantially in place. Of course, most periodicals reflect mainstream culture, whether liberal or conservative, or they would have few subscribers. Third, Charlie Rose does not secretly harbor sentiments that would likely get him in trouble with Bloomberg, which is why they are associated. If he did, he would have sought out different sponsorship. I have seen plenty of Leftish material find support on PBS in the past, especially on shows like Frontline.......
