The muslim population in the ME is a small chunk of the worlwide muslim population. Can we try not to judge the whole on the basis of smaller segment ?

So I do, kumar. Remember that I use "Islamists" to refer to the followers of militant, political Islam, like Al Qaida, Hizbullah and Hamas. When I say "Islamist" I do NOT mean "Muslim"

BTW, there are approx 6-8M people in the US, generally recognized as Americans that practice the muslim/islamic faith.

That's a very doubtful figure that some American Islamic organizations repeat. Most observers think the figure for American Muslims is closer to 2 or 3 million. The census does not ask religion so there are no authoritative figures.

The issue is particularly confused as most American Muslims are not Arab, and most American Arabs are not Muslim, but Christian.
