Bernard (Jibacoa) was running away a week ago, up 26%. As a technician, he probably picked stocks on a more timely basis than the rest of us. This makes me even more likely to follow his lead as the year unfolds.

The un-reality of a stock-picking contest becomes more obvious. If any of us could sell our portfolios now and stand pat for the duration, after last year's winners with no gains, who would not do so? If not, why not? Which stocks would anyone hold if they could sell the rest in the contest? Which would anyone sell?

As to the aforementioned ELN, I have it too and think that $10 is a minimal sell price.

Yeah, perhaps its time to join a monastery.

But everything is tanking now.

The only thing that makes sense to me right now is the bizarre: how about a company with a record of responding very favorably in a precisely analogous environment in Kuwait a decade ago.

One example I just found has the completely reasonable name of 'Boots and Coots' (symbol: WEL).

And just what does Boots and Coots do?

Put out oil well fires...
