I don't think you understand who is who's enemy. That's why you can't figure out who is who's friend. Omar & Bin Laden may cheer an American tragedy just as would Saddam, but that does not trump their stronger disagreement over the importance of religion in government.

That's exactly what we thought when we were supplying arms and weapons to the Russian opposition forces inside Afghanistan. Only to find that our "friends" would just as quickly turn their fanaticism against us. I doubt OBL or Saddam would trust each other.
