Powell is wrong, and is siding with the left wing racists. The Court will slam the Michigan plan down, if we are lucky. Otherwise the left will have succeeded in destroying any chance for a color-blind society. A color-blind society would result in a stronger America. The left knows this, thus their support for official discrimination through quotas.

As for Powell being wrong, that is not anything new. He failed as a potential Republican presidential candidate because he is often wrong on many issues. Bush saw him as a possibly valuable Secretary of State. Bush may still be proved right, but, so far, the most seminal feature of Powell's tenure was his disastrous support for the murderous Palistinians. He has since backed off that huge blunder, indicating that, perhaps, he can learn from some of his mistakes...

And, of course, Powell's statements at the Republican convention in 2000 on quotas (or, as the left calls it: "Affirmative Action") were, specifically, that it is only "a little bad", and should be accepted by conservatives as a sop to the black community.

When stood against the self-proclaimed "black leaders" like Jackson, Ferrakahn, Sharpton, the House Black Caucus, etc., Colin Powell is a GIANT. That is entirely due to his self-made success, clear rhetorical style, and intelligence-but certainly not to his clear thinking on history and current events.

His failure to comprehend the idea that that which is evil cannot be endorsed simply because it is only "a little evil", shows an absence of principle. (Like John McCain being convinced that CFR is important enough to 'slightly' abridge the First Amendment.) Absence of principle is the reason Powell is not in an elected office today.

There are times when Powell makes a lot of sense in narrow areas, and it almost balances out his personal confusion on principle, which is a product of a life of viewing the world entirely in terms of what is best for Colin Powell, rather than the general public good. In other words, he has all the tools of a good Cabinet member, and little potential for anything else...

Pally, the folks at the Post have a hearing or comprehension problem. Ms Rice did not say "it is appropriate for race to play a role in the admissions process"

I heard her speak directly.
"I believe that while race-neutral means are preferable, it is appropriate to use race as one factor among others in achieving a diverse student body."

That is 100% in sync with PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH.

You see by definition race is a factor of diversity. So one has to considers all factors if one wants a diverse whatever.

But some child of a lawyer or doctor who is African should get 20 points for admission and a perfect SAT is only 12 points. That's not diversity, that's racist.
