It strikes me that the most predictable business to be in with the best risk reward ratio is to get a good look at the inside data when the company starts up and get in on the ground floor of the distribution. Of course this requires knowing all kinds of people who will put the money up, or a reliable man on the inside who knows what he is doing. Short of owning a house, or knowing a man who works in one who trusts you and vice versa, this is a money intensive operation.

I have often thought that with all the investor-posters on the internet that they could start their own firm, co-op style to underwrite, trade, and disseminate data electronically. After all, most of what we are here for is for info on trading, i.e. to get data, and I will bet many people trade here by computer. If we were hooked to a data provider that was more responsive to our needs, we would be much more efficient traders. Insider reports, prospectuses and more capable computer charting, news, trade history, paper and electron, without paying through the nose is what many of us need. Why not one stop shopping?

I did much research on this in Canada. The whole data feed with quotes and news is 3800 CDN a month plus XCHNG fees per customer-connected for real time. For only one hundred people -- that is ALL the data for $38 CDN raw cost a person per month. The rest of the data is in the itnerpretation by software - client, server, database and display and other business costs.
