I would tend to agree. They certainly do not register any facts about the Iraqi regime to date, beyond US guilt in supporting it up the Gulf War.

For example, I learned from the NY Times' article on today's anti-war rallies that they had been sponsored by an organization called International Answer. I had a look at Internation Answer's site, and found their anti-war rationale here (Acrobat reader required):

In their explanation, they state categorically that pre-emptive war and no-fly zones are against international law, sanctions only make the Iraqi people suffer, and Bush proposes neo-colonialism, which is wrong. International Answer is for self-determination for the peoples of the Middle East.

I need hardly mention (besides, Hitchens does it so much better) how impervious this position is to the reality of the Saddam Hussein regime, or the fact that their policy recommendations, if followed, would present Saddam with carte blanche to reconquer all of Iraq and massacre the Kurds. Again.
