While chauffeuring the parrot on a stroll this afternoon, I was struck again by how warm it has been this winter. In conversation with the better half, we agree that it has been the warmest winter in the 30 years we've been here. It's not that the highs have been so elevated, although there have been a lot of 70+ (and even some 80+) days. Rather it has been the lack of any real cold weather. A couple of nights may have gotten to 31 - maybe. But other than that, nothing approaching freezing. I've yet to bring in my tender plants for the winter.

I'm guessing here, but my best guess is that the reason is a perturbation of the jet streams by el Nino. So far this winter, the polar jet has never been such as to take Yukon air and pour it into California. Very pleasant, but bad for the cherry crop.
