That's what my daughter says: Teaching is the toughest job you'll ever love. When I visit her class room and watch her handle three dozen kids I am so proud I could just pop.

My parents both served PTA as President and voted for every bond issue that hit the polls. So have I, when the bond issues are well-justified. Some aren't.

Public schools have to remain strong and shed themselves of some of the crap shoved down their throats by well-meaning utopians since the 1960s. I think you'd see a resurgence of support if some outrageous policies were done away with. You know what I'm talking about--you hear about some kids being expelled for inconsequential infractions while kids who don't want to learn are passed up the line in social promotions until they graduate to the welfare rolls.

I understand and empathize with the special needs of your son. It's tragic that we can't get together to provide the best kind of schooling for everyone. I think that's what President Bush means by "No child left behind." We really have no other choice, and I wish we could approach these issues more collaboratively.
