Yup. Japan has seemed to be stuck in an indecisive/denial mode for the last dozen years.

What happened to your "wonderful Japan" theme from last year? All those savings, all that discipline?

China change? That's a laugh! Sure there are some reforms (wow, they outlawed child labor!), but everything Victor posted is true. Without cheap labor all that "change" you see in China wouldn't be happening. That "wonderful" FDI (which you found so onerous for the US, btw) is to build assembly lines for commodity products and products invented elswhere.

There's change in China alright. They realize that central planning doesn't work, so they're auctioning off their labor force to the highest bidders to head of another revolution. The two dozen Starbucks and BMW's are for officials and carpetbaggers, GST, not the workers.

There are wonderful ways to invest in your "changing China." Just don't give me that BS line of yours that I have to be you to appreciate the profound implications for humanity, because there's nothing positive happening in China that hasn't happened in the US long before this.

This "armchair investor" has suggested UTStarcom and Netease as China plays. Unless you want to share some specific ideas with the class, I suggest you lecture me on volcanic gas or antheriums instead of telling me how behind the curve I am.
