Thanks for the Stratfor article. It makes some good points and has changed my mind about the exile issue, which I basically had considered to be the most likely denouement for Saddam. I hadn't calculated the nature of third parties attempting to prevent an American occupation and creation of a quisling government. That was the interesting nugget that begins to make the pas de deux currently going on between Turkey and the U.S. more intriguing. I'm of the opinion that Turkey would love to press its historical claims to the region around Mosul and Kirkuk, and the rich oil fields there. And the U.S. would be adamant about not sharing this spoil of war.

In the end, it really is only a matter of dividing up the carcass.
