Alinghi sweep to victory and the right to challenge for the America's Cup

19/01/2003

A 5-1 scoreline suggests a comprehensive victory, but it was a tough and close battle

ClappyTheSloppyFootballFanWearingHisDockSiders: The last U.S. team was just eliminated in the America's Cup trials...Oracle BMW (from San Francisco's St. Francis Yacht Club) sailed well BUT the Swiss team came out on top.

Here is a link to the official America's Cup website...

OLN TV only had the rights to broadcast the trials and the recent Louis Vuiton Cup....Now ESPN will take over and here is a link to the official schedule so that you can tune in next month...

The first races begin in around 3 weeks...Since the Kiwis from New Zealand have won a lot and have 'the home harbor advantage' I will support the underdog (Alinghi from Switzerland). The America's Cup has never been won by a European syndicate yet -- though I think that could change soon...;-)
