Yes, Schroeder has to jiggle global dimplomatics too, this is(was, last week,month) obviously the time to avoid a real transatlantic confontration. The way Blair has been claimed to function, despite political and domestic support, the transatlantic connections are important to save, to avoid the possibilities of american isolationism like before WW1 and WW2. (Blair-Straw are also doing the balancing act, but will Blair survive it??) Not to forget the Ashcrofts "The government lives in fear of the voters, and that is causing it to make mistake after mistake,"
