My point is deathcount. What were the total deaths from the Vietnam War--not just on our side, but everyone involved?

Americans suffered three thousand deaths from Al Qaeda, not Iraq. Why does it then make sense to create a deathcount that would parallel the total of Vietnam deaths. Given the reporting on Iraq is such that half of those in a recent poll thought Iraqis were on the 9/11 plane, it doesn't surprise me that a lot of folks have fallen hook, line and sinker for the Saddam bogeyman rap to a point where you want not only to kill him, but invariably will end up killing his victims.

Let's change the question: Who were the victims of Vietnam? Was Ho Chi Min, even though he asked for US assistance and it was denied? Was it his people? The folks from the south who got confused by a US-led coupe policy?

In my view, there has to be excellent and irrefutable reasons for waging a massive war. And a war in Iraq will be just that, massive. And one with serious repercussions as the real villians, Al Qaeda likely will use the Iraq vs. US card to inspire greater recruitment, sow further seeds of hatred and against the US and our people and eventually manifest this into a widening of the terrorism we each fear.

Bush should just zip it and let the UN perform its mandate.
