Anyone care to enlighten we who read this thread about diamonds and Africa? Quite the story. If anyone can describe this in concise form, I'd certainly appreaciate hearing about same.

Also, maybe someone knows about copper in Chile and in other places, or Indonesia's timber operations. And, really now, whose got all that silver and gold and how's all that coming out?

Perhaps if one better understood the world's resources, they'd better understand the politics neccessary, or unnecessary, to get them.

An oft-repeated story says Afghani fighters battling the Soviets in the 1980s would erect tents over areas they thought might contain gem veins. Then they’d hide and wait for the Soviets to bomb the tent, creating a small crater and revealing the gem reserves.
LOL! If that isn't true, it ought to be! :-)
